This lack of water, also called dehydration, can be exacerbated or facilitated by various processes, such as taking medications that increase urine output, profuse sweating during intense physical activity, or vomiting and diarrhea. Dehydration is especially common in th elderly. In medicine the condition of a dehydrated body is also known as exsiccosis.
