Batteries may not be disposed of with household waste. As an end consumer, the user is legally obligated to return used batteries. After use, the user can return batteries to the place of purchase or their surrounding area (e.g., in communal collection points or at local retailers), free of charge. The user can also return batteries by post.

Batteries or rechargeable batteries which contain harmful substances are marked with the symbol of a rubbish bin with a cross through it. The chemical name for the harmful substance can be found next to the rubbish bin symbol.
Note: Cd stands for cadmium, Pb for lead and Hg for mercury.
